Melissa received her Bachelor of Music at Washington State University, and began her professional singing career soon after she was hired by Norwegian Cruise Lines at an audition in Seattle in 2005. She traveled the world for 5 years, singing for various cruise lines as a production singer. In addition to performing on the high seas, Melissa has performed at Village Theatre, Tacoma Musical Playhouse, Harlequin Productions, and Florida Studio Theatre.

Melissa has music directed and accompanied since she was 15 years old. She loves working with educational programs and has taught at Tacoma Musical Playhouse, Studio East, KIDStage, Broadway Bound, and various high schools in the area. She is a busy voice instructor for Village Theatre’s KIDStage college-preparatory Institute program, Pathways to Singing, and Musical Theatre Tuesdays.

As a voice teacher, Melissa encourages healthy singing, focusing on breathing technique, placement, sustainability, and style. Voice students will also study music theory and sight reading to make them stronger musicians. As a piano teacher, Melissa focuses on the fundamentals of music theory, technique, performance, improvisation, and chord reading in order to get her students playing the music they want to play. She has been teaching ages 5 to 65 for over 15 years now and loves it!
