Melissa has been a voice and piano instructor at Kaleidoscope since 2014. As a voice teacher, Melissa encourages healthy singing, focusing on breathing technique, placement, sustainability, and style. Voice students will also study music theory and sight reading to make them stronger musicians. She encourages cross training in classical and contemporary styles to create a well-rounded singer. As a piano teacher, Melissa focuses on the fundamentals of music theory, technique, performance, improvisation, and chord reading in order to get her students playing the music they want to play. She has been teaching ages 5 to 65 for over 15 years now and loves it!
Melissa’s voice students are soloists at the Seattle Opera, Village Theatre, 5th Avenue Theatre, KIDStage, have placed in State Solo Contest, and regularly perform as principal roles in their school theater productions. When Melissa is not at Kaleidoscope, she instructs and music directs for Village Theatre’s Institute and KIDStage program and also at The Evergreen School. Other teaching credits include Tacoma Musical Playhouse, Olympia Family Theatre and Mount Rainier High School. Melissa is a very active musical theatre and commercial actor. Her performance credits include Village Theatre, Seattle Musical Theatre, Harlequin Productions, Florida Studio Theatre, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Majestic Lines, Celebrity Cruises, various churches in the community, and random commercials on TV.
