The guiding principle behind Alex’s approach is to empower students with the critical thinking skills to be their own teachers at all stages of learning. This comes through refining self-awareness of one’s mind and body. Alex makes tension-free playing a part of every music lesson as he considers playing an instrument an athletic endeavor. He is of firm belief that the right music teacher offers more than expertise; teachers who truly care can make a positive impact on a student’s sense of self that can last a lifetime.

Alex was a Carlsen Cello Foundation cello recipient and formerly Principal Cello in the UW Symphony Orchestra. He studied at the UW with Toby Saks who was herself a student of the great Leonard Rose, and is proud to pass on to his students the tradition of beautiful tone production and passion for learning.

Cello students of all ages and ability levels are welcomed. A new offering for this year is private instruction on violin. At the moment, beginning violin students ages 9 and up are welcomed.

Alex enjoys playing music of all genres and regularly contributes his strings sound to various bands and recording projects in the Seattle area. For lessons and other engagements such as weddings, visit
