Rose Hashimoto grew up in Seattle and recently returned to the area after a long stint in New York City. Rose was a member of the string orchestra Shattered Glass Ensemble and the Thalia Quartet, who served as Quartet in the Community for the 2013 Banff International String Quartet Competition. She has performed with ensembles including A Far Cry, Trio Cleonice, the Aeolus Quartet, and the Argus Quartet, and she played on A Far Cry’s 2019 Grammy-nominated album, Visions and Variations. Rose has performed in major venues in eight different countries, on the air on WQXR radio and PBS’ Live from Lincoln Center, and at music festivals including Birdfoot, Manchester Summer Chamber Music, Lucerne, Yellow Barn, Taos, and Kneisel Hall. Rose was the co-founder of Listen Closely, an organization dedicated to building community in upper Manhattan through music, which produced over 90 free and low-cost events in the community.

Rose earned a Bachelor of Music from Juilliard and a Master of Music and Professional Studies Diploma from Mannes College.

Rose is passionate about teaching children of all ages. She completed the two-year Suzuki teacher certification program at the School for Strings in New York, and has also completed training in the Mark O’Connor and Paul Rolland schools of string pedagogy. She is always interested in learning about new methods, new materials, and new approaches to education and she draws upon many sources in her teaching. Rose previously served on the faculty of the Lucy Moses School at the Kaufman Music Center, the Preparatory Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College, and the El Sistema-inspired programs Upbeat NYC and Harmony Program. She is committed to giving her students the tools to think for themselves and practice in a self-directed and organized way. She also loves creating games and creative ways of explaining different concepts.
