Adam Chmaj is a saxophonist who has performed professionally for over 5 years, from coast to coast, from Seattle to New York. His love and aspiration for the saxophone are like no other. Jazz artists he seeks to embody on the horn are Pete Christlieb, John Coltrane and Dexter Gordon. His love for classical saxophone stems from the playing of Timothy McAllister. His artistic qualities–including his joyous tone and the technical facility¬†of his playing–have been recognized in numerous festival performances, such as the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, Central Washington University’s Windfest and North Bend’s Jazz Walk.¬†He studied classical saxophone under Dr. Adam Pelandini, at CWU where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance.¬†For his jazz playing, he has been taught by artists such as Grace Kelly and Alexey Nikolaev.¬†Adam performs and teaches the styles of both classical and jazz–and everything in between. He is also knowledgeable in teaching beginning flute and clarinet.

Adam believes that learning the saxophone should be fun, easy and tension free. He believes that learning the saxophone shouldn’t be separated into learning one genre or the other, but rather be seen as an extension of your voice.
