Adam Chmaj is a saxophonist who has performed professionally for over 5 years, from coast to coast, from Seattle to New York. His love and aspiration for the saxophone are like no other. Jazz artists he seeks to embody on the horn are Pete Christlieb, John Coltrane and Dexter Gordon. His love for classical saxophone stems from the playing of Timothy McAllister. His artistic qualities–including his joyous tone and the technical facility of his playing–have been recognized in numerous festival performances, such as the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, Central Washington University’s Windfest and North Bend’s Jazz Walk. He studied classical saxophone under Dr. Adam Pelandini, at CWU where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance. For his jazz playing, he has been taught by artists such as Grace Kelly and Alexey Nikolaev. Adam performs and teaches the styles of both classical and jazz–and everything in between. He is also knowledgeable in teaching beginning flute and clarinet.
Adam believes that learning the saxophone should be fun, easy and tension free. He believes that learning the saxophone shouldn’t be separated into learning one genre or the other, but rather be seen as an extension of your voice.

Testimonials
Adam is the kind of teacher that will find the particular route into a love of music that resonates with your kid. When it was clear that our kid loved jazz, Adam made sure that all of his teaching and material was about what our kid was most interested in, constantly making the lessons engaging and joyful. Adam’s enthusiasm is infectious he builds confidence in his students through positive reinforcement while also encouraging students to take on challenging material. And lastly, he’s an incredible performer himself, providing a beacon for his students to aspire to.

Adam is a terrific woodwinds educator and performer! I was coming off a LONG hiatus from performing saxophone and Adam helped me to get started again. My confidence was LOW and Adam helped to build me up, playing alongside me, and providing me attainable challenges to work on. I appreciate Adam's calm and supportive demeanor along with his extensive knowledge about the saxophone and music in general. He's helped to integrate me into performing live at local jazz open mic nights, which has made playing again so much fun! I'm playing songs again that bring me so much joy and I feel better about my playing each day. Adam's performing is also inspirational with beautiful tone and highly creative solos. I had issues with a couple of my saxophones and Adam knew just the right people to provide quality and affordable repairs. 5/5 stars for Adam!
