Ian McCrone has 15 years of contemporary drumming experience, and a lifetime of music experience being raised in a musical household. He has played at events like the North Bend Block Party and at venues like the (now-closed) Hard Rock Cafe in Seattle, and has studied under Craig Winter (drumline instructor for the UW Huskies marching band) and fellow Kaleidoscope instructor Jason Edwards. On drumset, he has experience in pop, rock, metal, jazz, and funk music. He also has experience with orchestral percussion techniques.
Ian’s core teaching principle is that all musical learning should be guided by a student’s personal love of music. Learning skills like reading charts and music notation, building rudiment vocabulary, and playing with proper form and technique should always be done within the context of playing music that the student is excited about playing. Not only does this tailor the instruction to the needs of each individual student, but also ensures that the student stays excited and engaged in building their skills and passion for the instrument.
