Park taught my daughter ukulele at Yinghua Academy. He was very patient with her and taught her all the basics of the instrument. She really enjoyed it and it gave her a lot of confidence in music.
After she studied ukulele with him we went to China on vacation and she tried a guzheng lesson. This is a traditional Chinese harp like instrument. Because of her experience with Park she learned this instrument very quickly; and luckily we were able to find an instructor when she returned. She is now extremely accomplished on this instrument, and in fact has been invited to perform around the world including in China!
What else can I say? Park got her on her way, how many stories do you hear like that?

I initially met Park because the guitar teacher I was sporadically working with (he only had availability upon cancellation, not a full-time opening) referred me to Park. I immediately found Park warm, inviting, knowledgeable, yet practical. While the original guitar teacher I was working with was very by-the-book, Park took me past that approach, encouraging me to use my ears. Park's approach was (more or less) "Theory is good - learn theory. Your ears are good - use your ears."

A few years ago Park was my instructor in Minnesota. His lessons always contained more information than I expected and always pushed me to not just copy what he played but to think about what I was playing and what I was going to play. Minnesota misses him.

I was a student of his for several years when he lived and worked in the Minneapolis area. Not only is he an accomplished and talented musician, he possesses the pedagogical skills that one needs to be a good teacher. I feel I know this because I was a teacher of children and adults for over 37 years. Park knows and understands good teaching strategies and applied them when I was having difficulty with a particular lesson. He understands that no two people are alike and teaching an adult is far different than teacher a younger student. Park kept the lessons interesting and geared them toward my likes in music without compromising teaching the basic skills one must learn to be an accomplished guitar player, both in classical and modern music.
One of Park’s finest qualities is his patience. He is, by far, one of the kindest teachers I’ve ever met.
